Youth Work Practice Framework
The youth work practice framework has been developed as part of YouthLink Scotland's commitment to support the development of accessible, high quality youth work services.
The initial information provided in the practice directory was gathered as part of the mapping exercise which YouthLink Scotland carried out in 2003, this information has been checked and updated by our research staff and more case studies will be added to the directory in the coming months.
If you have a piece of practice that you want to share with your colleagues in the youth work sector please complete the on-line submission form.
The on-line submission form in the practice section has been designed in a manner that reflects the form previously issued in the youth work practice framework.
The Youth Practice Framework
The youth work practice framework document provides the full background notes and a form, which may be completed and submitted either as an email attachment or sent by post.
Youth work practitioners are encouraged to submit their case studies for inclusion in the practice directory.
What follows are practice examples of how the Practice Framework has been used by Edinburgh, Glagow and West Lothian. These local authorities were members of the group piloting the Framework and show the Framework can be adapted and used in a variety of ways to meet local requirements.
Those who have already used the Framework have found it very useful:
City of Edinburgh Council Community Education have developed a pack entitled 'Improving Quality in Youth & Children's Work' which is designed to be used by full and part time youth workers. The pack is based on the QI's from HGioCLD and the City of Edinburgh PI's for youth & children's work. The catalyst for the development of the pack was the practice framework produced by Youthlink Scotland. It assisted us to focus our thinking and link the quality developments in Edinburgh to the national agenda.

The Community Education Service in West Lothian are using the practice framework to report on all activity within their Youth Policy and are currently making minor adjustments to the document to allow it to be used to report on Adult Education and Capacity Building. The framework has been well received by staff.
