European Union

Europa is the portal site of the European Union. It provides up-to-date coverage of European Union affairs and essential information on European integration. Users can also consult all legislation currently in force or under discussion, access the websites of each of the EU institutions and find out about the policies administered by the European Union under the powers devolved to it by the Treaties.

The Council of Europe

The Council of Europe is an intergovernmental organisation which aims:

• to protect human rights, pluralist democracy and the rule of law;
• to promote awareness and encourage the development of Europe's cultural identity and diversity;
• to seek solutions to problems facing European society (discrimination against minorities, xenophobia, intolerance, environmental protection, human cloning, Aids, drugs, organised crime, etc.);
• to help consolidate democratic stability in Europe by backing political, legislative and constitutional reform.

The Council of Europe should not be confused with the European Union. The two organisations are quite distinct. The 15 European Union states, however, are all members of the Council of Europe.

Changemakers

Changemakers is an initiative of Ashoka: Innovators for the Public that focuses on the rapidly growing world of social entrepreneurship. Its mission is to provide inspiration, resources, and opportunities for those interested in social change throughout the world.

Changemakers.net offers the following sections:

• Compelling stories in Changemakers Journal reveal how the creative energy of social entrepreneurs drives innovation in diverse fields, including education, health, the environment, and other areas of human need. We want to dig deep and reach wide, sometimes returning to a topic, with your help and participation.
