For key senior staff within the youth work sector

Background

YouthLink Scotland created a new network to enhance partnership working and encourage a common approach to youth work issues across the youth work sector.

The Members Network has built on the developing understanding between the exisiting groupings of the Voluntary Sector Chief Officers and the Community Learning and Development Managers.  It brings together those who have the leading responsibility for youth work delivery within voluntary youth organisations and local authorities.  In some cases this will be the Chief Officer and the Community Learning Manager but often it will be another manager or officer within the voluntary organisation or local authority.  It is a matter for each voluntary organisation and local authority to decide on the most appropriate person to attend.

YouthLink Scotland considers that this developing network has added value and brought cohesion to the youth work sector.

Frequency: A half day/day meeting 4 times per year at different venues throughout Scotland.

Format:
There are opportunities for member presentations, practice sharing, information sharing and promoting the youth work sector as well as a keynote speaker on a current important issue for the sector.  Since the first meeting of the network in Stirling in June 2004 it has been regularly attended by around 30 representatives from local authorities and voluntary organisations.  Among the wide ranging items for discussion have been the place of youth work strategies within community planning, the Sexual Health Strategy, Sport 21, the National Youth Work Strategy and the Child Protection framework for standards.
