VOLUNTARY ORGANISATIONS CHIEF OFFICERS GROUP (VOCOG)

There are 50 national voluntary organisations that are members of YouthLink Scotland.  They range from large membership organisations (Youth Scotland), uniformed organisations (Scout Association), to issue based organisations (Lesbian Gay Bisexual and Transgender Youth) and organisations whose main focus is not primarily youth work (RSPB Scotland) but involves young people.

Membership
For voluntary organisations only.  For Chief Officers or lead officer as determined by each organisation.

Remit

  • To facilitate peer support on management issues unique to voluntary (youth) organisations
  • To offer support and networking opportunities for voluntary organisations
  • To provide Briefings and Information sharing
  • To enable discussion of and response to aspects of key strategic /policy issues that impact on young people and voluntary youth organisations

Frequency

4 meetings per year plus a residential.

Format of meetings

Meeting include information sharing with updates form the YouthLink Scotland Board, Members Network and Policy Forum and in-depth briefings that focus on key issues.  There is also a good opportunity for networking at all meetings.

Chairing of the Group

There will be a chair and a vice-chair to be decided by the Voluntary Organisations Group itself. The appointments would be for a period of not more than two years.

Nominations (including self nominations) will be sought via email to all voluntary members initially for the post of chair and subsequently for the post of vice-chair.

Mechanism for planning meetings

Small planning group of 4 comprising chair and vice-chair of the Group and two additional representatives from voluntary organisations plus YouthLink's Networks Officer. The two additional representatives on the planning group would serve for one year only.
